Its been said that chefs are the new Rock Stars. Huge personalities in this space like Gordon Ramsay, Anthony Bourdain and Giada De Laurentiis make it impossible for food lovers with a flair for cooking to ignore the allure of the kitchen!
Personally, I don't see the connection. I've been a chef for 30+ years, and I've cooked for rock stars, but certainly don't consider myself one. If anything, I'm more of an agent...lol. I can sort of see the comparison, in that many aspects of the cultures are similiar. Long hours, travel and partying. Also, there are similarities in the artistic aspects and the amount of time you put in developing your abilities. Check out the following article for a more insightful read.
There are a number of great reads on "rock star" chefs, here is my recommended list;
Kitchen confidential | Anthony Bourdain | ***** |
The apprentice | Jacques Pepin | **** |
32 Yolks | Eric Ripert | **** |
The first is a must read, because it does nor glamourize the business, it's honest. In fact all three are, but kitchen confidential is raw and truthful.
